WARNING WARNING…. CURVES AHEAD
If loyalty is a key player in the accomplishing of our Goals; then temptation must be it’s kryptonite.
The temptation is not some obsolete, cautionary tale restricted to The Garden of Eden, but a heartbreaking fascination that follows us like a plague; leaving behind broken promises and unfinished goals in its destructive path.
Each of us has fallen into temptations that hinder our health goals. All it takes is for a friend to say; “hey, let’s do a movie and popcorn!”
If I had a dime for every, “I shouldn’t but yes,” response, I would be rich.
Regardless if you talk clichés like “lack of self-discipline” or use complicated explanations to describe what’s happening, it can be summed up perfectly in one word; Temptation.
Yes, of course, the simple solution to the problem would be to just eliminate the source(s) of temptation completely or ‘Just say No’. But how well does that work out?
How about the last time you stopped eating sweets? Well, all you want to do is eat sweets! Or if you want to quit smoking; you tell yourself; “I’m not going to smoke, Smoking is nasty, smoking this, smoking that you tell yourself repeatedly all the while all you want to do now is SMOKE! It’s just crazy!
There must be some other way, where we can still enjoy life but not collapse under pressure.
Temptation is a part of life, but its power needs to be turned down to allow our Goals to succeed.
So, How can you resist the temptations that will sabotage your success? Let’s look at how Jesus resisted.
If it’s as John calls it; “lust of the eyes” such as food, pornography, gluttony, drugs, alcohol or sex, Turn away from the things that you already know that your flesh craves.
Jesus refused to turn the stones into bread.
If it’s Ambition that you know is your weakness well, when Satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world along with their wealth if only He would bow to him.
Jesus resisted and turned His thoughts and praises to His Father.
Things, per se are not evil, but when they come before God it becomes worship.
Know this: you will serve someone or something and its up to you who or what your master will be.
The lust of our flesh will always crave power and possessions.
Appetite and Ambition are the two causes of our destruction.
An appetite that is not healthy nor aligned with the Word of God will sabotage your success. You will need the Holy Spirit to help you with developing the fruit of “Self-control” to conquer it.
An attitude that is prideful and wants to “make a name for yourself” is detrimental to your success but Humility and Gratitude will keep you from compromising your probation
